For the display of Webcast programs on a user's computer, a player (software) is required to be installed on the user's computer. Popular players are Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Flash Video Player. A user can watch a program in the window of a player such as the above three.

Some Webcast programs are amenable for being downloaded on the user's computer hard disk. Others cannot be downloaded.

Many home users also upload home videos created by them through use of a Web camera to some service providers that distribute them to other users. Such services are predominantly free.
